About the event
Join us for Black Utopias, a dynamic literary conversation exploring how Black writers envision alternative futures, radical possibilities, and transformative narratives. Featuring acclaimed authors Michele Tracy Berger (Doll Seed: Stories), Justin C. Key (The World Wasn't Ready for You), and Chantelle Adanna Agbro (My Soul Told on Me), along with scholar Meryah A. Fisher, professor of African Studies and Hip-Hop at Cal State Dominguez, this event delves into speculative fiction, Afrofuturism, and the intersections of Black history, culture, and imagination.
Through gripping short stories, speculative fiction, and visionary scholarship, these thinkers and creators will discuss the power of storytelling to redefine the past, present, and future of Black existence. How do Black writers use utopian and dystopian narratives to challenge oppression, reclaim history, and inspire new possibilities? What lessons can we draw from these works to shape our reality today?
This thought-provoking conversation is a must-attend for fans of Afrofuturism, speculative fiction, and anyone invested in the power…
