A Righteous Summer

Thomas Boykin has spent the last two years stuffing his brain with science. For the geeky twenty-one-year-old medical student, the summer of '71 should be a relaxing break from academia. Instead Thomas opts for practical experience in an emergency room, where a terrible tragedy presents a harsh dose of reality.

After witnessing a child die from a hit-and-run accident, his sadness over her senseless passing, coupled with suppressed grief over his grandfather's death, proves too much. Thomas's custom motorcycle provides a much needed escape and he hits the road, unknowingly embarking on a life-changing adventure.

Soon the sheltered minister's son crosses paths with outlaw bikers. As he navigates this new world of drugs, kidnapping, and general debauchery, Thomas confronts true temptation when he meets Delisay Dee Davis. As he struggles to uphold his Christian moral standards, Thomas and Delisay become fully immersed in violent motorcycle gang culture after two college students are kidnapped.

It is only after risking his life for his beloved that Thomas learns valuable lessons about passion and loss, and finally accepts his own unique place in the world.

About the Author

C. Russell Thompson is a retired physician. Having served as a military doctor for ten years before working in civilian practice and academia for over two decades, he credits his religious upbringing with instilling in him a deep empathy for others.

Myrtle Beach's annual motorcycle rallies inspired Thompson to write about his own experiences with 1970s motorcycle culture in his second book, A Righteous Summer. His first book, With Rhyme for Reason, is a collection of poems and essays on modern social problems.

Grateful that his retirement allows him to unleash his passion for writing, he's currently working on other literary endeavors. Thompson is a married father of three and currently lives in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
