Walters, a Professor of Afro-American Studies, Government and Politics and Senior Fellow at the Center for Political Leadership, University of Maryland, received his Ph.D. from American University. His books include Jesse Jackson's 1984 Presidential Campaign and Black Presidential Politics in America, winner of the Ralph Bunche Prize and the W. E. B. DuBois Award.
